Sustaining a flexible and ubiquitously available Gbit/s network for backhaul and access in systems beyond 5G will require the exploitation of higher frequency bands, the adoption of novel hardware technologies and advanced materials as well as the rethinking of Communication Theory framework, traditional design principles and model-driven architectures. In this way, in the beyond 5G era, the conventional system concept of a 5G network as an universal resources (physical and virtual) manager will be transformed into an Artificial Intelligence-based system concept of a fully adaptive, power-efficient distributed computer and highly reliable connectivity provider.
B5G is not a matter of “simply” scaling existing 5G solutions by deploying more of the same technological artifacts. Beyond 5G communications impose new challenges, mainly associated with the question, how to integrate advanced technology solutions into an intelligent infrastructure that can smoothly adapt to changing circumstances, taking into account the -often exponential- increase in the complexity required for this purpose.
Networks evolution to the next generation will naturally involve the introduction of new resources to be exploited, the invention of novel technologies and the design of innovative system concepts that integrate all modules together to a feasible, scalable and reliable architecture. The objective of this panel is to discuss and debate on the
- critical ingredients of the B5G success
- the expected or ‘unexpected’ paradigm shifts,
- potential evolution scenarios
- key performance indices and killer applications and
- envisioned risks and threats
